White Fillings

Southern Smiles provides high quality, composite and amalgam dental fillings for patients throughout Mobile and the Eastern Shore. Tooth decay leads to cavities. If left untreated, a cavity can compromise the remaining structure of a tooth and even lead to tooth loss. It can also cause a very painful situation for those affected. If you have a cavity or multiple cavities, it is important to seek the appropriate dental treatment as soon as possible. In some cases, a composite or amalgam dental filling can be applied to fill in the decayed portion of the tooth and restore its form and function.

Our talented restorative dentist applies dental fillings that are constructed of high quality, durable materials such as composite. This composite is composed of a resin that is attractive in appearance and durable enough to withstand the wear and tear of chewing. To ensure that dental fillings are a painless, comfortable experience for our patients, we offer Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas) as well as local anesthesia.

Tooth decay is one of the most common diseases of mankind. The disease process is quite complex and involves the interaction of multiple factors. Composite fillings are one of the best materials in managing this disease. These restorations are bonded in place and create a seal with the tooth. This sealing off of bacteria helps prevent many of the problems traditional dentistry has dealt with.

The material choices in restorative dentistry are wide. We believe in using the best materials for the clinical situation at hand. We have chosen 3M products because they have been tested and trusted by the industry for many years. Composite resins are a hybrid of glass particles and resin. Using fillers such as quartz, feldspar, and silica make these restoration strong. With advances in processing, many of these particles are very small, down to the nanoparticle size, give them increased physical properties making them easily polished and shiny, as well as strong and resistance to chipping and breaking.

Our doctors use multiple tests to ensure treatment of dental decay is required. Our doctors verify xrays and Logicon results by correlating to pictures of your teeth. Our doctors use tactile assessment as well as microscopes to ensure your tooth needs a filling. In addition, our doctors use a new technique called light induced fluorescence to detect decay. Finally, our doctors use dyes to stain infected tooth structure ensuring that when our doctors recommend treatment it is the ideal time to intervene.

A typical white filling appointment involves gently numbing the area. After the tooth is asleep your doctor will remove diseased areas of your tooth as well as any remained dental restorations. When there is extensive injury to your tooth, your doctor will apply medicines to help heal the nerve of your tooth and prevent sensitivity. Once the tooth is clean, Dr Krempa will apply a bonding agent in order to place your dental filling. Keeping the tooth dry and sterile is important during this process. After your dentist has placed your filling and cured it with a ultraviolet light, he will adjust it and adapt it to the proper contours of your bite. Our doctors take pride in their work and will be happy to adjust your tooth until you are completely satisfied. Call us today for we can discuss how to make your mouth healthy.

The office staff is welcoming and friendly. Everyone makes me feel comfortable. Also, I loved how flexible they were with squeezing me into their schedule when I needed work done. Ashley went over the cost before procedures were done, and the assistants educated me on how to maintain a healthier smile. I have definitely found my dentist!
